Oh and Linda, the dvd was WhiteNoise, one to watch in the dark (horror) lol, won't spoil it for you if you aint seen it yet, but i thought it was very good. tomorrow i'll be working a wee bit later than usual, so my aim will be to get a good walk round the grounds of the hospital where the office is sited. I'm not employed by the hospital, our office just happens to be attached to the grounds there. This week, if all goes well, i'll be in the gym for an hour at least on Wednesday then i'll probably try and run home, which is abouta mile. At some point i need to tackle the outdoor runs....If i'm going for this half marathon then the fact is it can't be done on  a treadmill. The forms arrived on friday, i hadn't realised that i have a choice of two runs,the promoters call it a race, yeah right, me against the snails!&lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_crazy.gif" alt=":crazy:" class="middle" border="0"&gt;But as there is a 10k (about 6 miles) as well as a half marathon then i'll be certain to do at least one of the events...My prefference is to make the half marathon, but realism might mean it's got to be the 10k.....We'll see&lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" class="middle" border="0"&gt;

Got my sons here until Sunday night, they live with their mother but spend most weekends out at my place. So the football is on, got play-station2 hooked up to the tv in the livingroom for when the match ends, lots of Sensations(the crisps) in the cupboard and a horror DVD for before bed! Thats me sorted....maybe i should do something for them as well eh lol  Wee walk up the hill is all i'm doinig excersise wise today, i make a point of getting up and down the hill at least once every day, then tomorrow i'll try and do an hour in the gym. I've also discovered the best time for me to weigh myself is in the morning, as i seem to be lighter then&lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" class="middle" border="0"&gt; By the end of the day, once i've had my gallon and a half of water i'm heaveier...I'll probably creep out for a chinese later as well so if my weight goes up a tad in the morning i'll do an extra 500 metres on the treadmill...lol&lt;br&gt;

Was really dissapointed last night when i weighed meself,I was convinced i'd have lost some weight but after weighing myself i was totally cheesed off to discover i've PUT ON a couple of pounds!I'm certainly hungrier all the time since i re-started the excersises....but when in the gym i'm also sweating buckets so i was sure i would have lost some weight as well. Not so far i haven't! Not too worried about it yet, i'm enjoying the gym a wee bit now. It must be an age thing,coz when i come out of the gym now and i can walk to the car without my legs feeling like they are ready to give way i'm starting to feel a real sense of acheivment! lol Doesn't feel quite the same when i try and get out of the drivers seat at the other end.....then i really do feel as if i've put on about 20 years, it's sooooo hard this excersise lark! Funny thing from last week......when on the treadmill and just about 2 miles on the clock, a whole group of gymnastic's pupils came into the gym to get a drink from the water dispenser.These just happened to be all females, all perfectly formed and me being the typical male, decided to stay on the treadmill to show i was as fit as the butchers dog! Well the bunch of so and so's stood talking at the water machine for at least another 25 minutes, then left. A WHOLE 2 MILES LATER!!! When i came off the treadmill, face beetroot red with heat, my feet wouldn't do what they were told....it was like being light headed from the ankles up! That'll teach me eh lol I'm taking it easy tonight, a gentle stroll uphill then a hot bath, just for a change,&lt;br&gt;

Could hardly walk for a few days, felt about 40 years older than i am, but back to normal now. Last night i went back and took things a wee bit slower, and tried different equipment out as well. If nothing else comes of this at least i'll know how to climb stairs while moving my arms backwards and forwards at an alarming rate! Some of the machines in the gym really are a science unto themselves. You need to be able to programme the thing just to make any sort of sense of the information it spits out as you use it. The treadmill for instance, can count calories, distance in Miles and KMs, can tell you the rate you were running at(slow jog in my case)and also the total time you have been running. Same goes for the rowing machines and the ski-stepper machine. The last one, once you get it moving has you moving in a jogging type motion with your feet on these pedals, while there are two poles, like ski poles that your meant to be able to hold onto...co-ordination is a must if you don't want a bang in the elbow as the whole thing moves in time as you run/jog on it! Once you get a good speed going, the next trick is to try and make it stop without throwing you into the air....dangerous thing this excersise lol Progressing onto the step machine tomorrow, what joy that promises to be. Not strained anything toooo important so far Linda....but i'll keep you posted lol&lt;br&gt;

Compared to the nearest gyms to where i live, the cost is about half what it would cost in a typical leisure centre. Other added benefit is the place is usually quiet, with locals using it rather than the Iron men and women from the posher gyms! £3.20 for an hour and a half.....not bad eh! True Scot that i am, the more i go the more i'll save in comparrison to attending a 'real' gym, what an incentive eh...lol Take care all&lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" class="middle" border="0"&gt;

Not tackling the hill before the gym though, don't think i'd manage both at the one sitting, so to speak lol&lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif" alt=":DD" class="middle" border="0"&gt; If i'm back with enough puff to type some later then i'll let you know how it went, oh, and i WALKED to the bakers today, never took the car lol When your sat at a pc all day it can make you soooo lazy it's not true. very humid in edinburgh tonight, we may get some thunder but it should make working up a sweat no problem at all&lt;br&gt;

the link above is only for the brave amongst you....it's the site where all my worst fears were realised, i'm officially overweight! if only i never smoked when i was younger, the stunted growth means that for my height, my weight is about a stone(14 pounds) heavier than it should be! had i made 7 foot 2 i'd have been spot on! &lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" class="middle" border="0"&gt; So the wished for half marathon is now just an aside to me gettig my weight back down to where it should be and to where i am happiest with it. I'll be going to the gym tomorrow, with a bit of luck there won't be anyone else in and i won't have to bother about looking ridiculous as i try running on a treadmill for the first time. I just hope it's reinforced...if the link at the top of this blog doesn't publish properly i'll type in the page tomorrow. The website relating to the link is one of the BBC's and has loads of helpful info on diet and nutrition, well worth a look if your hoping (like me!) to shed a few pounds.&lt;br&gt;

Thats not me making excuses already, lol but it was near 4am this morning before i went to bed and got up feeling pretty tired. At my age these late nights just don't have the same effect as they used to&lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif" alt=":DD" class="middle" border="0"&gt;&lt;br&gt;
Beautiful and sunny here at lunchtime so todays walk was replaced by the need for the communal grass that my flat has a share in to be cut. As there is four flats that share the same patch of greenery it's a fair size and the fact the garden is quite sheltered at the bottom of a valley meant the sun had the same effect as a good work-out, by the time i was done i was sweating buckets! &lt;img src="/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif" alt=":oops:" class="middle" border="0"&gt; It's  bank holida here today so the gym i'm going to be using is closed. It's attached to a community school, which will reopen for business as usual tomorrow so if i'm able to i'll update you after my first proper workout.(as long as i'm not in hospital recovering that is!)&lt;br&gt;
As I mentioned, i live at the bottom of a valley, with an extremely steep hill back up to civilisation...this killer hill will form quite a bit of my leg building excersising, although i guess i might alter things every now and then just to keep it interesting. So day one was just a gentle starter, more will follow thats for sure, by next week i hope to have some idea of my chances(if any) of trying this half marathon. By then i should have had a wee go on the treadmill, maybe even a light jog or two...the half marathon i wish to take part in is being run on september 4th through the centre of glasgow. So, the moral of the story is, &lt;u&gt;save&lt;/u&gt; &lt;u&gt;save&lt;/u&gt; &lt;u&gt;save!!! &lt;/u&gt; lol&lt;br&gt;
Okm, thats that of my chest, right this is my blog. Whats it about? well, i'm racing towards 40, seems only yesterday i thought 40 was for 'oldies' and here i am, only 2 months away from my birthday and thinking if anyone was brave enough to look at me without a drink in them then the only conclusion that could be got was that i look like and old git these days. As i'm not a millionaire(pretty skint really) i aim to get myself fit, lose my spare tyre from hanging over my waistband and maybe if i stick with it, i also hope to run a half marathon on Sept' 4th. And i'm doing it the poor mans way, lots of walking, jogging and trying to find cheap gyms for the days when i can't be bothered with all that walking and running! I hope it will be enlightening, interesting and maybe a wee bit fun along the way as well. Anyone like minded is free to liase and swap info, maybe links to sites or health info sites would be good as well.&lt;br&gt;
I'm just a novice at all this so we'll need to just learn it as i go along....&lt;br&gt;
